Grassroots International is looking for volunteers to assist our staff with fundraising tasks, outreach, mailings, clerical work and other office support, for help with events and virtual activism and as translators. Volunteers can work both in our Jamaica Plain office and remotely.

We have four types of volunteer opportunities available:

• Weekly Volunteers
• On-call Volunteers
• Virtual Volunteers
• Document Translators

Weekly Volunteers

Weekly volunteers provide regular support for ongoing tasks and occasional projects. These volunteer opportunities require:

• A minimum four hour per week commitment
• Legible writings skills for composing short notes and addressing envelopes to donors
• Ability to work independently and efficiently at filing, stuffing envelopes and occasional data entry
• Completion of special projects and tasks determined based on volunteer's skillset

On-call Volunteers

Grassroots maintains a corps of volunteers who are available to help on an as-needed basis. On-call volunteers will get emails when there are needs for help at office or events. These will primarily be weekday evenings or weekends. Volunteers should have:

• Legible writings skills for composing short notes and addressing envelopes to donors
• Good communications skills and an understanding of Grassroots’ mission for events and outreach work

Virtual Volunteers

Virtual volunteers work remotely on various projects for Grassroots. Tasks include web-research, document revision and updating and maintaining our presence on various websites.

Document Translators

Grassroots has an ongoing need for folks with strong language ability in Portuguese, French and Spanish translate to proposals and reports from our partner organizations in Brazil, Haiti and Mesoamerica. Translators will:

• Have intermediate to advanced readings skills in the foreign language, and strong English writing skills
• Work with us independently and electronically, by exchanging documents with us via email
