Barry Ingber, one of our donors, recently organized an online fundraiser for his 70th birthday. In lieu of gifts, he asked his friends and family to make donations to Grassroots International.
“I really don’t need or want any more stuff, but I wanted to give my friends and family a way to gift me on my 70th birthday,” Barry said about his experience. Though a recent donor to us, Barry expressed that he’s “long known about and admired Grassroots International’s model for addressing injustice… and decided Grassroots should be the recipient.”
Barry shared that “In the end, I got 47 gifts totaling $6,376, a much larger donation to Grassroots than I could have made alone. And, corny as it may sound, the response made me feel really loved and connected!”
This is a time of year when many of us set New Year’s resolutions. And at this critical time of converging global crises — when so much hangs in the balance — many of us are setting resolutions to do our part to shift the balance towards love, solidarity, and regeneration.
If you are interested in deepening your engagement with us, we would deeply appreciate it if one of your 2023 resolutions was to organize five people in your network to become Grassroots International donors. One easy way to do this is to use the opportunity of your birthday to raise funds for Grassroots International, following Barry’s example.
While Grassroots International is working tirelessly to shift institutional philanthropy and to move more resources from foundations to the frontlines of global social movements, progressive individuals who share our visions of transformation and our principles of long-term social movement accompaniment are an absolutely critical base of support for our work. And so we are working hard to build our base of individual donors – at all levels of giving. Thank you in advance for considering supporting us in this effort.
