Popular Peasant Movement (MCP)

Child with okra grown in his family's garden, Brazil. The MCP is at the forefront of promoting agroecological farming practices that are environmentally friendly, economically viable and promote biodiversity. The MCP models and advocates for diversified production of food, food sovereignty and peasant power.

Since 2008, MCP has worked with peasant families to save, multiply, distribute and market Creole (or heirloom) seeds as a way to defend the peasants’ autonomy and preserve biodiversity. MCP is at the forefront of struggles in the central state of Goiás and in the Northeast region to resist aggressive agribusiness land grabs (including large-scale industrial agrofuel plantations), and to promote agroecological farming practices.
