African Women lead on food policy

Women farmers are under constant pressure from international agrobusiness and their influence on national policies. Now, women farmers in West Africa have resisted and grown powerful through We Are the Solution (WAS), a seven-nation coalition of peasant organizations for women. With grassroots training, national radio programs, and effective advocacy, WAS leaders have made women-led farming and agroecology serious alternatives for national policy. Senegal has, for the first time, included agroecology in its national farm and food plan.
