Join us for a RootsNet gathering to catch up with each other and to learn about and discuss the situation in Puerto Rico. The crisis that has been building there as a result of crushing neo-liberal policies and massive debt was dramatically heightened by the devastation of Hurricane Maria last fall. Naomi Klein has written a compelling eye-witness account of both the destruction as well as the heartening solidarity, resourcefulness, and resilience shown by Puerto Ricans attempting to rebuild their energy, agricultural, and other infrastructure in the face of these overwhelming challenges.
Jovanna Garcia Soto, Grassroots’ Solidarity Program Officer for Latin America, recently returned from Puerto Rico (where she participated on the same delegation as Naomi Klein) and will report back and lead a discussion of what is happening there, including the quickly coalescing plans of modern-day carpet-baggers to take advantage of the crisis to move in and build a for-profit utopia for the ultra-rich.
We very much hope to see you there. Please RSVP by May 18, 2018.
