Quilombola win land rights victory in Brazil
The communal rights of rural Indigenous and Afro-descended communities in Brazil form a frontline defense against corporate efforts to exploit and destroy forests, river valleys, and other natural resources. Those rights have been under direct attack from the right wing Bolsanaro government. Grassroots International partners for legal defense have supported the Afro-Brazilian Quilobola people in their 14-year legal battle over land rights. Last year, the Quilombola won a historic court case confirming their land rights under the national constitution.
