In this issue of Solidarity Notes you’ll learn about how Grassroots International’s partners and the movements they are part of are creating alternatives to combat injustice around the world.
The ATC is the main member of La Via Campesina in Nicaragua, and plays an important role strengthening the peasant movements not just in Nicaragua, but across all of Central America. Founded in 1978, the ATC unites over 50,000 campesinos and landless rural families from cooperatives, small landholding associations and unions.
The ATC operates a Central American Training Center (Francisco Morazán Regional Training Center) and trains community leaders from across Central America in agroecological farming as well as community organizing, advocacy and food sovereignty. The center also deploys trainers to other countries in the region for on-the-ground training.
The ATC plays a key role in strengthening the peasant economy by creating alliances and promoting policies toward food sovereignty and access to government programs to improve peasants’ living conditions.
