Owen Berson (they/them)

Owen Berson joined Grassroots International as Philanthropic Partnerships Manager in 2021. Prior to that, they spent nearly five years providing equity focused capacity building and consulting services to nonprofits. They also have spent about nine years engaging in institutional and individual donor fundraising as a volunteer and board member for grassroots social justice organizations, including Black & Pink and Center for Cooperative Development and Solidarity. Owen is a member of Resource Generation, which organizes young people with wealth and class privilege for the equitable redistribution of land, wealth, and power. Owen has a BA in Latin American Studies from Oberlin College and had the opportunity to study on the U.S./Mexico border and learn about the impacts of US foreign policy on migration. They are bilingual in Spanish and feel grateful for the opportunities they have had to learn from and work in solidarity with small farmers in Nicaragua during college, as well as with immigrant communities in the Boston area. Owen views fundraising as a kind of community organizing and is excited to continue organizing for solidarity philanthropy and the redistribution of wealth to transformative social justice movements. Owen is passionate about using their skills in fundraising, facilitation, research, and writing to further racial, gender, and disability justice, and food sovereignty.
