Linking Agriculture, Development and Migration: A Critical Look at NAFTA

Organized by Heinrich Böll Foundation North America, Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, Washington Office on Latin America, Alliance for Responsible Trade, Institute for Policy Studies, Labor Council for Latin American Advancement and Global Exchange.

Almost 15 years have passed since NAFTA was ratified and with the last agricultural trade barriers between Mexico, the U.S., and Canada have fallen. This one-day seminar will examine NAFTA as an integration model, with a particular focus on what has happened in the areas of agriculture, development and migration in North America. The impacts of NAFTA on farmers, communities, agriculture, and the food system and the connection between US trade policy and migration patterns from Mexico and Latin America will also be discussed.
