Acompañamiento en la defensa del territorio en Oriente Medio
La protección de la tierra, el agua y el territorio son parte fundamental de la lucha por la autodeterminación del pueblo palestino. Las políticas y las prácticas del Gobierno israelí, en tanto Estado basado en el colonialismo de asentamiento, buscan ampliar el control israelí sobre el mayor territorio posible, al tiempo que expropia la tierra a la población palestina. Como resultado, el pueblo palestino es expulsado de su patria o queda atrapado en enclaves aislados y cada vez más pequeños.
Aunque todas las organizaciones que acompaña Grassroots International en Palestina están implicadas en la protección de la tierra, el agua y el territorio, esta lucha es especialmente urgente en el Área C de la Cisjordania ocupada. En esta zona, que abarca el 60 % de Cisjordania y la inmensa mayoría de las tierras agrícolas palestinas, las comunidades palestinas corren un riesgo inminente de desplazamiento forzoso. Los asentamientos ilegales israelíes controlan directamente cerca de dos tercios del Área C, e Israel sigue expandiendo los asentamientos de forma agresiva. El desarrollo palestino en el Área C está estrictamente controlado por Israel, lo que hace casi imposible que la población palestina obtenga permisos para construir en sus comunidades o mantener infraestructuras esenciales.
