
Acompañamiento a las iniciativas de soberanía alimentaria en Oriente Medio
Miles de personas de Gaza se vieron obligadas a abandonar sus hogares en enero de 2022 cuando las lluvias torrenciales, exacerbadas por el cambio climático, se filtraron por una infraestructura ya destrozada por los bombardeos militares israelíes, situación que generó una mezcla de aguas residuales y agua de lluvia en las viviendas. Al mismo tiempo, las fuerzas israelíes usaron gases lacrimógenos y balas de goma para reprimir las protestas de la población beduina palestina del desierto del Naqab, quienes se resistían a la plantación de un bosque sobre su aldea. Experiencias similares de injusticia ecológica son habituales en la vida palestina bajo el gobierno israelí.
Los movimientos sociales de Palestina se enfrentan a la convergencia del colonialismo de asentamiento y el militarismo de los Estados Unidos y de Israel. La población palestina se organiza a escala local y transnacional por un futuro justo y sostenible al mismo tiempo que lucha contra un Gobierno que mantiene el apartheid del agua, planta bosques sobre municipios que han sufrido una limpieza étnica, arranca árboles para construir un muro, realiza simulacros militares sobre campos de cultivo, obtiene beneficios de las industrias extractivistas en territorio ocupado y recibe miles de millones de financiación militar estadounidense.
Grassroots International acompaña iniciativas como las siguientes:
- Una escuela de agroecología gestionada por un equipo palestino para el desarrollo de habilidades, herramientas prácticas y conocimientos adaptados al contexto local.
- Campañas y organización para defender la tierra y el agua, desmantelar el muro del apartheid, detener la limpieza étnica y oponerse a las falsas soluciones al cambio climático.
- Iniciativas de acceso a los alimentos implementadas por refugiades la comunidad palestina dentro de los centros para personas refugiadas.
