Rede Social de Justiça e Direitos Humanos/Red Social de Justicia y Derechos Humanos
Los movimientos de Brasil se enfrentan a muchas amenazas: gobiernos nacionales y locales, tribunales y fuerzas policiales; empresas y sus milicias a sueldo; movimientos callejeros de extrema derecha y paramilitares, entre otros. Rede Social trabaja sobre el terreno y en los tribunales para proporcionar defensa legal esencial, documentación y formación a los movimientos en su lucha por un Brasil mejor.
La protección de los derechos humanos va de la mano del crecimiento saludable de los movimientos sociales y, en última instancia, de un mundo más justo y equitativo. Rede Social de Justiça e Direitos Humanos (Red por la Justicia Social y los Derechos Humanos, también conocida como Rede Social) es una organización activa en la defensa de los derechos humanos que trabaja codo con codo con quienes luchan en Brasil por la justicia y la liberación en diversas luchas y territorios.
Mientras les activistas y los liderazgos del movimiento se enfrentan a situaciones difíciles y a menudo peligrosas en su lucha por la justicia social, la labor de Rede Social ha sido clave para proporcionar asistencia y defensa jurídicas, investigación, formación, información y campañas en los medios de comunicación sobre abusos de los derechos civiles. Mediante la investigación, el trabajo de incidencia y la acción, Rede Social trabaja para garantizar los derechos humanos económicos, sociales, culturales, civiles y políticos en Brasil. Su labor integral apunta a que quienes vulneran estos derechos rindan cuentas ante la justicia.
Rede Social se creó a instancias de decenas de organizaciones no gubernamentales y movimientos sociales de Brasil, entre ellos el sector del trabajo rural, movimientos indígenas, organizaciones juveniles y afrobrasileñas. Sin embargo, a medida que los ataques contra los movimientos y los derechos legales se han ido intensificado en los últimos años, la labor de Rede Social ha cobrado aún más importancia.
Rede Social es una voz destacada en la denuncia del acaparamiento de tierras por parte de grandes empresas financieras y universidades estadounidenses, especialmente en la zona del Cerrado. El activismo de investigación ha demostrado que los agrocombustibles en Brasil y en toda América Latina son una falsa solución al cambio climático, ya que impulsan el acaparamiento de tierras y a menudo producen emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero comparables a las de los combustibles fósiles. La organización también ha desempeñado un papel clave en la denuncia de las violaciones de los derechos humanos de les trabajadores y las familias rurales desplazadas que se han visto afectadas por esta industria.
En el futuro, Rede Social seguirá poniendo a disposición de los movimientos sociales su activismo de asistencia legal e investigación en la lucha por un Brasil más justo. Grassroots International seguirá aportando recursos vitales y necesarios para su labor.
