Solidarity Program Officer for the Middle East

“I will spare no effort to raise my children in an environment different from my own lived experiences.”

Ayman Nijim is the Solidarity Program Officer for the Middle East at Grassroots International, overseeing programmatic accompaniment and grantmaking in the Middle East region. He is originally from Gaza, Palestine. He has worked at various international and community-based organizations with children who have experienced war and trauma to articulate and radically imagine a praxis for their healing, reparation, and liberation. He has created projects showcasing the unalienable rights of children and projects focused on overcoming interlocking systems of oppression.

Ayman graduated from the College of Translation at Al-Mustansiriyah University in Baghdad, Iraq, with his studies coinciding with the US-led war against Iraq. He holds a master’s degree in Intercultural Service, Leadership and Management from the School of International Training in Vermont. He received a higher diploma from the International Trauma Healing Program in Olympia, Washington. Prior to Grassroots International, Ayman was program director at Maine Immigrant and Refugee Services and executive director of the intercultural/interfaith organization Common Ground. He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Gaza Community Mental Health Foundation.

Ayman is a doctoral student in Transformative Social Change, focusing on liberation psychology, at Saybrook University in Pasadena, California, as well as serving as a teaching assistant there.
