The Martín-Baró Initiative
An introduction
Grassroots International reconoce las profundas heridas causadas por el colonialismo, el militarismo y otros sistemas de opresión. Además, creemos en el poder de los movimientos sociales para curar dichas heridas al desarrollar recursos a través de los cuales las personas directamente afectadas puedan volver a contar sus vidas mientras crean un cambio transformador y alcanzan la liberación.
Por ello, tenemos el honor de presentar la Iniciativa Martín-Baró para el Bienestar y los Derechos Humanos (MBI, por sus siglas en inglés). MBI, en estrecha colaboración con un grupo voluntario formado por profesionales de la psicología, personas investigadoras, docentes, estudiantes y activistas, concede subvenciones a iniciativas de base en comunidades afectadas por la violencia institucional, la represión y la injusticia social. Estos proyectos promueven el bienestar psicológico, la conciencia social, la resistencia política y la justicia social, a menudo a partir de conocimientos y prácticas ancestrales.
About Ignacio Martín-Baró
Ignacio Martín-Baró was a social psychologist, scholar, activist, and Jesuit priest renowned for his cutting-edge work around liberation psychology. He was one of six Jesuits who, along with their housekeeper and her daughter, were murdered by the Salvadoran military in 1989 at the Central American University in San Salvador. At the time of his death, he was the Vice-Rector of the University and the Director of the University’s Center for Public Opinion.
