Protests erupted in Haiti

On Wednesday, a few days, before the third anniversary of the 2010 earthquake, a legal case involving former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide generated turmoil in the capital of Port-au-Prince. Hundreds of Aristide supporters marched towards the place where he is being questioned about his participation in corruption cases. Holding photos of the ex-president, the crowd chanted in protest of what they believe are politically-motived accusations.   President Aristide has been accused before. According to an article in Nation article on Wikileaks documents, earlier accusations were used to prevent him from returning to Haiti. The new legal case against Mr. Aristide, who was overthrown by the US military in 2004, will be sent to the court. Based on the protests, many continue to view the US-sponsored coup against the Aristide government as an act of disregard to Haiti’s sovereignty.   The case against Mr. Aristide, which coincides with the third anniversary of the nation’s devastating earthquake, also raises concerns about Haiti’s political stability.
