Organización Fraternal Negra Hondureña/Black Fraternal Organization of Honduras (OFRANEH)
Em Honduras, as comunidades afro-indígenas Garifuna enfrentam uma ampla gama de ameaças ao território, à cultura, aos modos de vida e às vidas. Com a Organización Fraternal Negra Hondureña (Organização Fraternal Negra Hondurenha), estão afirmando seus direitos e se empoderando.
A OFRANEH é uma organização de base de comunidades Garifuna (indígenas afrodescendentes) que atua na proteção dos direitos econômicos, sociais e culturais das comunidades Garifuna, em especial na agricultura, na pesca e na defesa da Mãe Terra.
Os territórios e direitos dos Garifuna estão sofrendo golpes crescentes de grandes empreiteiras, que tentam assumir o controle das terras, da pesca e das florestas para lucrar, e dos impactos das mudanças climáticas ao longo da costa caribenha. Outras ameaças significativas advêm da construção planejada de “cidades estatutárias”, da multiplicação das plantações voltadas à produção de biocombustíveis, do desenvolvimento de megaprojetos turísticos, da expansão do crime organizado e da exploração e extração de petróleo.
Há uma quantidade crescente e alarmante de mortes e desaparecimentos de ativistas Garifuna nos últimos meses e anos como um reflexo dos interesses de agentes estatais e privados na apropriação dos territórios Garifuna por projetos lucrativos de exploração da natureza.
Com uma rede de rádios comunitárias, casas de cura ancestral e outros projetos, a OFRANEH promove a saúde e a educação ambiental, apoia o uso do idioma garifuna, o desenvolvimento de lideranças femininas e jovens, além de coordenar as ações da comunidade em defesa de seus territórios ancestrais. A OFRANEH também participa da construção de movimentos nacionais, regionais e internacionais contra a militarização e pela justiça climática.
