The CLIMA Fund — of which Grassroots International is a member — recently released both a series of short videos and an impact report on its 5-year anniversary of funding grassroots climate solutions. As a collaboration between Grassroots International, Global Greengrants Fund, Thousand Currents, and Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights, The CLIMA Fund was created to resource grassroots climate justice movements led by Indigenous Peoples, women, youth, and small-scale farmers addressing the root causes of the climate crisis and cooling the planet.

Over the last five years, the CLIMA Fund has raised over $10 million and made over 300 grants in 71 countries. CLIMA Fund grantee partners are dismantling the fossil fuel-dependent economic system, challenging and creating an alternative to corporate-controlled food systems, reclaiming Indigenous lands and preserving Indigenous knowledges, and holding corporations, financiers, and governments accountable for their contribution to the climate crisis.

The CLIMA Fund impact report details how grantee partners are at the forefront of social and economic transformation. Their victories and successes take us closer to a liberated future every day and demonstrate why investing in community-led climate justice solutions is philanthropy’s big bet against the climate crisis. Read the report here.

Additionally, a new video series put out by the CLIMA Fund synthesizes key learnings from three years of dialogues among funders and grassroots leaders about the what, why, and how of supporting grassroots climate action globally. Covering a variety of angles, from reimagining scale to the role of international solidarity, each of the videos highlights the value of supporting grassroots action at this pivotal point in the climate crisis. The series aims to inspire funders to match the scale of grassroots movement-building with bold and effective philanthropy, and to reflect on solidarity and funding beyond borders to address the climate crisis.
