
Acompanhamento da defesa do território no Oriente Médio
A proteção das terras, das águas e dos territórios está no coração da luta palestina por autodeterminação. Como um estado colonial de ocupação, o governo de Israel tem políticas e práticas voltadas à ampliação do controle israelense do maior território possível e à expropriação dos/as residentes palestinos/as. Assim, os/as palestinos/as são expulsos/as de sua terra natal ou ficam restritos/as a fragmentos isolados e cada vez menores do território.
Embora todas as entidades parceiras da Grassroots International na Palestina estejam envolvidas na proteção das terras, águas e territórios, essa luta é particularmente urgente na Área C, na Cisjordânia ocupada. Nessa área, que abrange 60% da Cisjordânia e a vasta maioria das terras agrícolas palestinas, as comunidades palestinas estão sob risco iminente de deslocamento forçado. Os assentamentos ilegais de Israel têm controle direto de cerca de dois terços da Área C, e Israel continua expandindo seus assentamentos de forma agressiva na região. O desenvolvimento palestino na Área C sofre um controle rígido de Israel, e por isso é praticamente impossível para um/a palestino/a receber autorização para obras em sua comunidade ou para a manutenção de sua infraestrutura básica.
Na Área C, a Grassroots International colabora com iniciativas como:
- Campanhas e organização de comunidades de agricultores/as e pastores/as palestinos/as, que sofrem ataques frequentes de militares e soldados israelenses;
- Um projeto para fomentar a capacidade organizativa de coletivos de mulheres e de jovens na promoção de modos de vida sustentáveis, da soberania alimentar e das economias solidárias na Área C;
- Projetos voltados à gestão e ao reaproveitamento da água.
