
Acompanhamento das iniciativas em prol da justiça ecológica no Oriente Médio
Em janeiro de 2022, milhares de pessoas tiveram que migrar quando os padrões de precipitação alterados pelas mudanças climáticas incidiram sobre a infraestrutura de Gaza, devastada por séries de bombardeios israelenses, inundando as casas com uma mistura de chuva e esgoto. Enquanto isso, os/as palestinos/as beduínos/as que se manifestavam no deserto de Naqab enfrentavam o gás lacrimogêneo e as balas de borracha das forças israelenses, que reprimiam a resistência à plantação de uma floresta sobre sua aldeia. Outras experiências semelhantes de injustiça ecológica compõem uma parte importante da vida palestina sob domínio israelense.
Os movimentos sociais da Palestina estão enfrentando a convergência do colonialismo de ocupação e do militarismo dos Estados Unidos e de Israel. No enfrentamento a um governo que mantém um apartheid hídrico, que planta florestas sobre povoados após limpezas étnicas, que arranca árvores para construir muros, que realiza treinamentos militares em campos de cultivo, que lucra com a indústria extrativa em territórios ocupados e recebe bilhões de financiamento militar estadunidense, os/as palestinos/as se organizam em nível local e transnacional por um futuro justo e sustentável.
A Grassroots International acompanha iniciativas como:
- Uma escola de agroecologia dirigida por palestinos/as voltada ao desenvolvimento de habilidades, ferramentas práticas e conhecimento contextualizado;
- As campanhas e a organização em prol da defesa das terra e águas, da queda do muro do apartheid, do fim da limpeza étnica e contra as falsas soluções climáticas;
- As iniciativas em prol do acesso à alimentação implementadas em campos de refugiados/as por refugiados/as palestinos/as;
Projetos em favor dos modos de vida sustentável e da soberania alimentar.
