
Ayuda Legal Puerto Rico (Assistência Jurídica Porto Rico)
A Ayuda Legal Puerto Rico (Assistência Jurídica Porto Rico) promove o acesso à justiça e a defesa dos direitos fundamentais por meio de educação jurídica, do desenvolvimento da cidadania e da assistência jurídica às comunidades de renda baixa e média.
As principais áreas de atuação da Ayuda Legal são a formação de coalizões, a educação jurídica, o desenvolvimento de capacidades, a atividade jurídica comunitária e a incidência de impacto social. Ela usa a tecnologia e a análise de políticas públicas para ampliar seu impacto.
A passagem do furacão Maria motivou a Ayuda Legal a implementar a primeira iniciativa de assistência jurídica após o desastre em Porto Rico: a Assistência Jurídica Furacão Maria. O sucesso desse programa inspirou muitas das iniciativas jurídicas pós-desastre em Porto Rico. Ela demonstrou que esse modelo de educação e assistência jurídica comunitária serve para acompanhar, empoderar e transformar as políticas públicas.
Os atuais projetos da Ayuda Legal tratam de questões de acesso à justiça, do direito à habitação e a recuperação justa das comunidades. Dentre suas estratégias, destaca-se o emprego de brigadas comunitárias após desastres de modo a assegurar que as pessoas tenham acesso aos recursos a que têm direito.
