Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares e Indígenas de Honduras (Conselho Civil de Organizações Populares e Indígenas de Honduras) – COPINH
Em uma luta de décadas, o Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares e Indígenas de Honduras (Conselho Civil de Organizações Populares e Indígenas de Honduras) expulsou dezenas de operações ilegais de extração de madeira dos territórios dos povos Lenca, em Honduras, recuperando mais de 200 títulos de terras comunais indígenas e ampliando as vozes das comunidades indígenas em nível internacional.
O COPINH foi fundado no início dos anos 1990 para lutar pelo direito do povo Lenca a seu território e a sua cultura ancestrais. Seu objetivo é eliminar o patriarcado, a opressão e as relações de desigualdade entre mulheres e homens, além de promover relações de igualdade e respeito pela diversidade sexual. Nos anos após sua fundação, o COPINH se tornou uma das principais vozes em defesa dos direitos dos povos indígenas na Mesoamérica e no mundo, e trabalha ativamente pelo fortalecimento e pela união dos movimentos sociais de Honduras.
Desde o começo de 2013, o COPINH lidera a luta contra o megaprojeto Agua Zarca, que envolve a construção de quatro grandes represas na bacia do rio Gualcarque, a privatização do rio e a usurpação do território e dos direitos ancestrais indígenas. O povo Lenca resiste bravamente à construção da represa de Agua Zarca em seu território apesar de todos os ataques que sofre, inclusive a criminalização e as tentativas de assassinato de seus líderes. No processo, conseguiram demover investidores internacionais do projeto e impedi-lo, em uma vitória retumbante para o movimento.
Em 2016, Berta Cáceres, uma cofundadora do COPINH conhecida internacionalmente, foi assassinada. Nas palavras do COPINH e de outros movimentos de Honduras, “Berta não morreu; ela se multiplicou!” Apesar das persistentes ameaças e tentativas de intimidação, os movimentos de base seguem em sua organização em prol dos direitos humanos e da justiça por Berta Cáceres, da justiça ambiental e da defesa dos territórios indígenas sagrados. Em 2021, um dos principais mentores do assassinato foi condenado, e a luta pela cura por meio da justiça continua.
