Movimento Camponês Popular – MCP
Dentre as inúmeras questões enfrentadas pelos/as camponeses/as em seus territórios, destacam-se as sementes e as políticas de sementes. O Movimento Camponês Popular promove a organização de agricultores de pequena escala na construção de um sistema alimentar que proteja o clima e seja controlado pelas comunidades.
Na última década, o agronegócio se expandiu no Brasil, usando seu poder para promover e impor suas vontades sobre o sistema alimentar. Com a poderosa influência da indústria sobre a política brasileira, os governos não foram capazes de implementar novas políticas – ou cancelar as existentes – de modo a regulamentar a indústria, proteger os/as camponeses/as e o meio ambiente. Dentre suas práticas mais destrutivas e os maiores pontos de conflito entre os/as agricultores/as locais e os bilionários do agronegócio está a questão dos insumos agrícolas: as sementes, os agroquímicos industriais e as leis de patente referentes à “propriedade” genética.
O Movimento Camponês Popular (MCP) atua junto a camponeses/as e pequenos/as agricultores/as no Brasil para divulgar as práticas agrícolas agroecológicas que protegem o planeta, sustentam as comunidades e protegem a biodiversidade. Os/As camponeses/as do MCP também estão na resistência às grilagens de terra violentas perpetradas pelo agronegócio, principalmente para plantações industriais de grande porte de biocombustível. Em diversos estados brasileiros, o MCP promove e defende a produção de cultivos diversos, a soberania alimentar e o poder camponês.
Desde 2008, o MCP atua junto a famílias camponesas para preservar, reproduzir e escoar sementes crioulas (ou tradicionais) como uma forma de defender a autonomia dos/as camponeses/as e preservar a biodiversidade. A Grassroots International oferece recursos ao MCP que permitem ampliar seu trabalho por meio de capacitações, contratações e encontros nacionais.
