Maryel Cardenas is Program Associate at Grassroots International. She is thrilled to be a part of the Program team and contribute to Grassroots International’s mission of supporting social movements in the Global South. As a first-generation Latina whose parents immigrated from Ecuador to the United States, she is incredibly passionate about Latin American history and social movements.

Before joining Grassroots International, Maryel worked at the intersection of education and journalism. Maryel was an Education Assistant at The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, promoting youth engagement with global issues. She also spent a year supporting the Education Department at Democracy Now!, an independent news organization, in New York City.

She holds a BA in Peace and Justice Studies and Political Science from Pace University.
