Administrative Coordinator

Opal Mita serves as Administrative Coordinator at Grassroots International. She has worked in the progressive, non-profit field for over 30 years, providing administrative and operational support to various peace and justice organizations.

She holds a BA in Development Economics from Hampshire College, with an emphasis on Latin America. As part of her studies, she spent time at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico researching and writing about the 1994 NAFTA trade policy and its social and economic ramifications for small farms and Indigenous corn producers in the southern states of Mexico.

Whether working for a service industry labor union (writing stories on union members’ victories and struggles), or for an academic research facility (managing outreach studies on racial health disparities), or currently at Grassroots International (supporting finance and administrative systems), Opal has always searched out organizations whose mission centers people over profit.

Opal is a devoted Auntie/Tia to several amazing children. She enjoys working in her yard and hopes to turn it into a jungle. Her personal motto is: “When in doubt, bake!”
