Owen Berson joined Grassroots International as Philanthropic Partnerships Manager in 2021. They are grateful for the opportunity to support social movements in the Global South as a resource mobilizer. In addition to writing grants, Owen strengthens relationships with institutional funders, and represents Grassroots International in various funder networks. Prior to joining Grassroots International, Owen worked as a nonprofit consultant on issues of human resources and racial equity, and volunteered as a resource mobilizer and board member for organizations supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, prison abolition, immigrant community, and worker cooperative development.
Owen is a member of Resource Generation, which organizes young people with wealth and class privilege for the equitable redistribution of land, wealth, and power. Owen is bilingual in Spanish and has completed social justice interpreter training. Owen appreciates how their role at Grassroots International allows them to organize within philanthropy to shift power and resources. Owen is passionate about racial, gender and disability justice, food sovereignty, and also loves to sing, dance, spend time outside, and cook with friends.
