In November 2023, we had the honor of visiting our partners, Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares e Indígenas de Honduras (@COPINH) and Organización Fraternal Negra Hondureña (OFRANEH). We witnessed firsthand the incredible intersections of territory, culture, and healing, and the radical reclamation of Indigenous practices and lands.

From COPINH’s 30th anniversary celebration — a powerful Guancasco ceremony of peace and resilience — to OFRANEH’s land recuperation in Vallecito, the perseverance and spiritual strength of the Lenca and Garífuna peoples left a deep impact on us.

As we focus on healing and wellbeing for #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, these stories of collective care and resistance inspire us to envision a liberated world grounded in love for ourselves and our Earth. 🌍✨

Just as the Nakba is ongoing, trauma is continuous

Just as the Nakba is ongoing, trauma is continuous in Palestine.

Today, we join people around the world in commemorating the Nakba. In 1948, Zionist militias expelled some 800,000 Palestinians (over 75 percent of the existing population) from their homes under threat of bombings, mass executions, and other forms of violence. Since October ‘23, the Israeli military has conducted unprecedented attacks against 2 million Palestinians, forcing most of them to flee again — even as many were already refugees from 1948.

May we stand together today and every day for a post-trauma reality in Palestine: one without genocide or oppression, and that lifts up life and our common humanity.

The Onça Quilombo community in Maranhão, Brazil

The Onça Quilombo community in Maranhão, Brazil recently suffered a violent invasion at the hands of armed thugs led by a local rancher.

Afrodescendant Quilombola communities in Brazil face a host of threats at the intersection of racism and land grabs. Despite the violent attack, state authorities are doing little to nothing to ensure the safety of the quilombola people. In some cases, they're even complicit.

Our partner @moquibommaranhao has called for solidarity with the Onça Quilombo community. Stay tuned for online actions you can take in the coming days.

Local and national food systems are systematically dismantled, creating dependency on aid and imports that can be reduced or cut off entirely by external forces, leaving entire populations in the balance.

As we commemorate #InternationalDayofPeasantStruggle, we're reminded of the critical importance of what our global movement partner @la_via_campesina_official, representing millions of peasants and rural peoples across the globe, is struggling for in its call for food sovereignty: a fundamentally different food system grounded in principles of self-determination, ecological balance, and respect for human rights, among others. A food system in which food cannot be weaponized because people have sovereignty over their food and territory.

An Israeli airstrike killed Dunia’s (aged 12) family and took her leg. While recovering in Khan Younis, an Israeli tank shell hit the hospital and killed Dunia.

Because of Israel’s genocide, Dunia will never become the doctor she wanted to be.
