New Documentary Exposes Carbon Offset Schemes
World Rainforest Movement, one of our grantee allies, shared the following new video resource with us for amplification.
The idea for this short documentary “NO to REDD and Carbon Markets” emerged from Indigenous communities in the Amazon. They hope this tool can help other communities that are being besieged by proponents of carbon offset projects, to understand these projects better and know the risks that they pose. The video also denounces the extractive and authoritarian logic that carbon market schemes defend and promote.
Made in 2024 on the initiative of indigenous communities in the Amazon, Latin America, the documentary brings together experiences, reflections and testimonies of Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities who decided to say NO to REDD and other carbon projects, which they identify as a threat to their territories and cultures.
It also questions the capitalist, racist, heteropatriarchal and colonial logic of these projects, which seeks to use forests historically conserved by communities to launder the image of polluting companies and generate profits.
Available also in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Bahasa Indonesia.
