La Via Campesina Central America (LVC-CA) strives to create a space for exchange around the region’s political, economic and social context, to strengthen La Via Campesina (LVC) organizations and their overall work in the region. It prioritizes gender equity and youth leadership as key components for continuous movement building to increase the political participation and the power of women and youth within LVC organizations in Central America. LVC-CA also strives to build up advocacy work against the neoliberal model and policies in each country and to prepare leaders to represent the region in international spaces.

La Via Campesina Central America, with the ATC of Nicaragua, created the Francisco Morazán Regional Training Center in Nicaragua to train peasant and Indigenous members from across Central America in agroecological farming as well as community organizing, advocacy and food sovereignty. In addition to political education and leadership training, the school aims to advance agroecology through practical training and the creation and strengthening of cooperatives, associations, unions, mutual societies, and distribution centers through peasant-to-peasant methodologies.

LVC-CA coordinates La Via Campesina’s Global Campaign for Agrarian Reform, Land, Water and Territory. This campaign seeks to strengthen local and global land struggles to promote agrarian reform, influence government policies, protect territorial rights, advance food sovereignty, and open access to land for youth, women, and Indigenous Peoples. The campaign also advocates for the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests – a global governance instrument shaped by social movements – as another tool to stop land and ocean grabbing.

Through its Honduran member CODIMCA, LVC-CA is also active in the implementation of La Via Campesina’s Global Campaign to End Violence Against Women.
